Dr. Craig Clements

Clements brings to 19 the number of non-resident scholars who provide timely topical insights on issues facing the insurance industry; deliver presentations; moderate panel discussions; and write and review white papers and research projects.  Their work is supplemented by Triple-I products, such as its online Resilience Accelerator.

“Triple-I is excited to have Dr. Clements join our organization given his expertise in the scientific factors that drive wildfires and his knowledge about how to mitigate them,” said Triple-I CEO Sean Kevelighan.

The SJSU Wildfire Interdisciplinary Research Center shares with the Triple-I a core mission — educating   the public and policymakers about the threats to life and property posed by wildfires. Clements leads research on fire weather, extreme fire behavior, fire-atmosphere interactions, and conducting wildfire field experiments.

“I look forward to sharing our findings with the Triple-I, one of the nation’s most trusted sources of unique, data-driven insights on insurance,” Clements said.

The Triple-I’s newest non-resident scholar received his Ph.D. in Geophysics from the University of Houston, a master’s degree in Meteorology from the University of Utah, and a bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of Nevada. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed journal articles and teaches courses in Fire Weather, Wildfire Science, Mountain Meteorology, Climate Change, and Meteorological Instrumentation. His research has been featured in prominent media outlets, including PBS NOVA, Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Time, CNN, and Scientific American
